Kong 's Journey
Kong's owner no longer wanted him so they dumped him at a full pound with the claim that he was "sick from heart worms". That claim was not true and greatly limited Kong's chance of rescue.
The shelter was full and unable to hold a large senior pet. At 90 pounds, Kong had no placement options So, Pound Pals was asked to consider him. We were allowed to meet him and evaluate him on a Saturday afternoon.
He is a good boy. Very calm, friendly, well mannered and wasn't bothered by other dogs - even the ones jumping on the cage doors. He wagged his tail at the kitties and pottied outside indicating that he is house trained. It was evident that Kong was going to have to have a rescue willing to look past his current condition, he had blood and puss oozing from his ears... Kong wasn't going to be an easy pull but if he had of been, Pound Pals never would have been called upon.
It is hard to meet Kong and not be swayed to help him. His sweet demeanor wraps around your heart and opens your eyes so that you can look past all the obstacles. Kong has endured long term neglect. He arrived with staph infections in both ears. It takes an ear infection a long time to reach that degree of neglect. I cannot imagine the amount of discomfort and pain he endured. Yet he smiled and remained friendly and welcoming.
Kong was not going to be an easy fix which is the reason nobody else would commit to him. It was evident that he was going to require a committed long term foster and a long term financial investment in his medical care.
This is the work of the Pound Pals Village - giving a chance to those who have never had a chance.
Take a close look at Kong's freedom photo. That says it all. He knows someone came FOR HIM (and that someone was the Pound Pals Village). His face says what his words cannot. His face is full of thankfulness, joy and relief.
Kong's long term foster mom lost her battle with cancer. As a result, Kong currently resides in boarding. If you would like to open your home to Kong as a l-o-n-g term foster and are able to get him to his vet visits at in Greenville, Tx., please complete a foster agreement at www.poundpals.com for consideration.
Followers can participate in Kong's journey by chipping in on his long term care expenses.
Kong says, "Woof!!" Thank you for following my journey and helping me get the care I need.
